I have Works Word Processor which I used to type various docs and letters,
but when I have emailed the docs to people as an attachment, they are unable
to open. Also, if I receive a Word document I am only able to 'view' the
document using microsoft word viewer. Do I need to buy anotherMicrosoft Word
program ?

When you create data in a program - like a document in your Works word
processor - that program creates the data in a *format*. In order for
someone else to read that file, they must have a program installed that
can read the format. It would be better for you to save your documents
in .rtf format instead of the native Works word processor format. If
your Works is an older version that came with the real Microsoft Word
(instead of the "Works word processor"), the problem may be that the
documents you receive are created in a newer version of MS Word and
your older Word can't read them.

It really depends on how much transferring of files you do. If you do a
lot of this type of work, it would probably be worthwhile buying the
latest version of Word (Office 2003). I believe you can buy Word
separately from the whole Office suite.

If you don't do a lot of transferring and/or don't want to spend the
money, you can download and install OpenOffice which can read and save
in the Word 2003 format. OpenOffice is a free office suite which you
can get at www.openoffice.org.
