I'm configuring a home office in the most basic workgroup/peer to peer
configuration. All computers are XP home.
We recently changed from DSL to cable.
Our DSL was previously set with a complicated Linksys router with a Dell
Server (XP 2003) configured with domains, etc. This was set up by a
professional technician to try to set up VPNs etc.
That whole thing was unnecessary, though, so I've removed the DSL, the
server, the linksys router and renamed the network on every individual
computer as simply as possible.
So now I have a direct cable connection (comcast) going into a switch with
only the following connections:
Computers (1,2,3,4, etc.)
2 Vonage routers (but seem to conflict with gateways, etc.)
that's it.
Only one computer can see and access one other computer. Even that computer
cannot access back the functional computer. I've checked the basic settings
(IP address, gateway, etc.) and they all match.
What I'm thinking is that there is some registry adjustment or something
that this technician inserted somewhere that is preventing these originally
Domain-networked computers to be non functional on a basic windows network,
and if there's any way to reset the registry to default or something.
