Wordpad/notepad blowing up in new Dell Dimension

I just purchased a new Dell Dimension 9100 (new line for Dell). I loaded
Mcafee VirusScan, Firewall and Privacy Service. I also downloaded all
critical Windows Security downloads. Everything is working fine except when I
try to open wordpad or notepad files. At times, when I open these files, the
computer goes crazy with errors and says that explorer must close. I created
a new wordpad and notepad file, saved both and re-opened them: everything
seemed fine. Then I re-opened Windows Explorer and when I tried to open the
wordpad file with exlplorer, the computer again went crazy with errors and
said the program must shut down. The error report included:
C:\DOCUME~1\HBT\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERed75.dir00\drwtsn32.exe.mdmp
C:\DOCUME~1\HBT\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERed75.dir00\appcompat.txt
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I ran McAfee virusscan and no
problems were found. Any advice would be GREATLY APPRECIATED! Thanks Bryan

I have a friend who had a similar problem,Wordpad ,with a new computer, a
Dell also,I could not help him myself,he had to take the time to call
Dell, and ,after talking to two or three of the technicians, they found the
problem, and I am not sure what precisely they found. You can get Very
frustrated if you take it upon yourself to fix the problem.
Good luck!

Hi Alberto,
Thank you for you reply. Can you find out the Dell case number for me?
This will make the solution quick and easy. Thank you very much. Bryan

Not sure where you are Bryan, but in Canada is 1 800 847 4096
and in the US 1 877 576 3355
In any case, the numbers are in the Dells Manual ("Solutions guide" is mine
called)
If you have any problem with those numbers ,they will direct you to the
right places.
Good luck!

Hi Alberto,
I was referring to the case number, not the phone number. When someone
calls Dell for tech support, the technician assigns a case number. If your
friend can locate the case number for which the techs solved the problem, it
will make it very easy to apply the same solution to my computer. Thanks.

Sorry Bryan,I have been trying to contact my friend, but he is not around,he
lives in another town here. But what I remember of the case was that every
time he opened MS Word, according to him,the program would go into a state he
called "safe mode",and it took around three or four different technicians to
solve the problem, and Dell did not make him to reformat the hard drive to
get over the problem.
If I contact my friend will let you know.

Bad news señor,my friend told me that Dell reformatted the hard disk because
they could not solve the problem. He does not have the csa number anymore.
Good luck, and if you have to reformat,it might be better now that the
computer is new,than later.
Take care

Alberto
