Word on Terminal Server - Licencing options

P

Paul Walker

I am trying to licence 15 copies of word on a TS for remote users. I
have no option on this I must have Word on the TS. I am a registered
OEM system builder with Microsoft.

My options seem to be :

1. Full Retail copy MS Word 2003
2. Works Suite 2004 (comes with Word 2002)
3. OEM MS Word 2003
4. OEM Works Suite 2004 (comes withWord 2002)

Now then the cost vary wildly for each of these options but which
would be ok, both usage wise and licensing wise
to load on a terminal server.

In addition how do you load 15 copies of the above apps onto a
terminal server?, is it just a case of loading one copy
and thats it or entering 15 license codes separately so the server
knows how many it can legally dole out to users?.

Thanks for any information.

Paul.

Whatever application you choose to install on the TS, you install
it just once (while the server is in install mode), and then you
have to make sure that no more users can use the applications than
you have licenses. How you do this is up to you.

As far as I know, Office licensing is Per Device, not Per user,
but check this out for Office 2003.

Thanks for the info.

I only need Word not the full office suite. Which of the blow is a
legitimate option, installation wise and legally wise :

1. Full Retail copy MS Word 2003
2. Works Suite 2004 (comes with Word 2002)
3. OEM MS Word 2003
4. OEM Works Suite 2004 (comes withWord 2002)

Thanks

Paul,.

All packages should be bought with the number of licenses that is
needed to cover all devices that run the software. Don't think
that there is a difference there.

Regarding installation procedures, there shouldn't be a difference
between retail copies and OEM versions of the same package.
I have no information about Works Suite, but here are the
installation instructions for Word 2000 and 2003 on a TS. Note
that Word 2000 requires the use of the transform.mst file, 2003
doesn't.
