Word incompatability

I have XP and the Word processor isn't compatable with what my teacher is
expecting. I was told I have to use WORD so I'm confused as to which version
I need to make it compatable. When I send the document through OE, it gets
unformatted. Can anyone suggest what to do? Do I need a different version of
Word?

Word is Word is Word. If you have Word, you have Word; if you don't, you
have something else.

If by XP you mean Windows XP then it doesn't come with a word processor -
although it does come with WordPad which produces documents which Word can
read - but doesn't have most of the facilities of Word.. Most likely your
computer was supplied with Works - and Works word processor documents are
not compatible. Alternatively OpenOffice is free and, I think reasonably
compatible although I don't know much about it - I don't have a url to hand
but Google will find it for you.

The first thing to do is determine what exactly you have. The second to
determine what you need. The third to address any inconsistencies found.

Also, what do you mean by "send the document through OE?" Does OE mean
Outlook Express? Are you attaching the Word document to your e-mail? By
doing so I cannot grasp how it might get "unformatted" on the way. It is
possible that the person at the receiving end has Word set for a very
different printer, which might make a difference. Or are you pasting it
into your e-mail? Doing so might very well mess up your formatting.

When you send Word documents as email attachments, they can come apart. If
this is happening, try putting the file in a compressed folder (zip file)
and sending that as an attachment.
