word - how do you remove a scanner?

Hello,

I am trying to prevent from having old scanners present when inserting an image in Word 2000 running on XP SP2.

Insert, Image, From a scanner

I have the old scanners that are not connected anymore and have been uninstalled...

If I cannot remove the old ones (from Word), is there a way to set the default scanner??
