Word Fonts

I have a user who is trying to change her font within
word. She can select the font from the tools menu but
once the font is selected it is not applied to the
document. If the user opens an existing document and
highlights a word(s) and then goes up top to change to
font, the font again does not change. I have looked up
and down and cannot find a feature that is either enabled
or disabled, does anyone know of this type of problem or
even better, have a resolution?

Tools > options > view > uncheck draft font ?
