Fonts change after merging

Using Word 2007 - some merge code fonts are changing after merging. For
example, if I have a merge code for "Name", the first name comes out in one
font, the last name in a completely different font. I have checked the style
and it's "Normal" and I have checked the font on the code and around the
code, and there's only one in the original document, but as soon as I merge,
these weird font changes are showing all over the document. And highlighting
the merge code and resetting the font doesn't help. Does anyone know why
this happens and how to fix it?

Thanks.

Hi Michelle,

Your problem description suggests someone's inserted the mergefield into a block of text with different formatting, then moved it to
its current location, or they've applied a character style to it. For either problem, press Alt-F9 in the mailmerge main document to
reveal the field codes, then select the fields and apply the desired formatting by choosing 'Change Styles' from the Home ribbon and
clicking on 'clear all'. If you see any '\* MERGEFORMAT' strings in the affected fields, delete them too. Once you're done, press
Alt-F9 again to toggle the field codes.
