Word 2007 - Page numbers not available

Working in Word 2007 and following the path Insert > Page Number all options
are dim and not available. Formatting the page number is available but
results in nothing. No problem inserting text in headers or footers.
Frequently told "Building Boxes.dotx Template not available."
No problem inserting page numbers and using section breaks in previous
versions.
Thanks, Rex

With Word closed, use Windows Explorer to go to

%appdata%\Microsoft\Document Building Blocks\1033

and delete Building Blocks.dotx. (Note -- the 1033 is the language ID for
English US; if you have another language or locale, the number will be
different.) Then restart Word, which will create a new copy of that file. Does
that help?

Jay, Found several copies of Building Blocks.dotx, deleted all.
The Page number options are still dimmed and unavailable.
Thanks,
Rex

I hope none of the copies you deleted were in the Office12 folder under Program
Files. That one is supposed to stay...

In Word 2007, go to Office button > Word Options > Resources and click the
Diagnose button to see if a repair will work.

Jay,
CAN DO!!!!
Contact the Red Cross and get your Life Saver patch.
I teach college as well and this is a problem for a fair amount of my
students. And I am an author - books on MS Excel/Office among others. And my
editor's staff has this problem too.
I have kept Office XP on one system just for this function.
Thanks,
Rex
