Word 2003 merge

Is there a way to do a "global" edit to the data files created through the
Word 2003 merge? Is there a way to edit and print the data file without
going through Word?
 
If you are talking about the type of data file created from the merge
wizard/toolbar then no. It is possible to turn that file into a Word
document, but you would still need Word to edit it.
