Word 2003 grammar check shows old deleted words too

Suddenly when I ask for spell/grammar check, every place I changed a word,
the old word shows up too in the highlighted segment being checked. Such as
HeIt or MickHe These don't show on the document, but it makes reading
the 'checking' segment difficult since I tend to change words frequently.
This didn't happen before - what could I have checked in Options that
triggered it? I've looked and nothing seems like it would cause this.
 
It sounds as though you have 'tracking changes' active from the review
tools.
