Won't recognize device

I have Windows XP, loaded MM2, connected using ilink to my
new Sony handycam. Seems to be connected right, put the
camera setting to VCR and pressed play, tried to capture
the video in MM2 and it keeps saying that my device is not
recognized. What am I doing wrong?

I'm experiencing the same problem. I have the Sony IP5 handycam. I can't get MM2 or Roxio DVDbuilder to recognize the device. Any suggestions?

The IP5 is a MicroMV camcorder which makes MPEG2 files... see the info at
the Digital Camcorders > Sony page of my website. Then the Importing Source
Files > Video > MPEG2 page.

What you need to do is convert the MPEG2 file into something that Movie
Maker can better work with, probably an AVI file.
