won't play sound files except midi's

my computer won't play any sound files except midi's. on any other sound file (even cd's) it show up on screen as playing but therer is no sound coming out

Open your CD-Rom.
Blow into it really, really, really hard.
Put a CD in and try to play it. (BTW, "cd's" needs no
apostrophe because apostrophes [can] declare possession;
thus, it's just "CDs.")

If that doesn't work, take your CPU's cover off.
Beware of any bats or pterodactyls that might fly out.
Poke a tube into your CPU's inner gut.
Put the other end of the tube in your mouth and suck
really hard. (That'll get all the fat and crap out, just
don't swallow it!)
Then put the CPU's cover back on.

Voilà! That should do it!

did you perhaps shut off a setting in the sound controls. the name evades me but it usually resides in my taskbar. if you know what i mean, lol, check to see that the other stuff besides midi is on and that the volume is up and not muted.
