I can go to any website with relative ease. However, when I try to Windows
Update my XP sp2, after checking the installation and given the option
"express' or 'custom', I choose the 'express' and at this point it seems to
make no progress except with the LED light moving from L to R. The updates is
from start>start menu or from IE>Tools?Windows Update. I try this a few times
at different hour and there is no error showing. Fyi, I was able to do
Windows Upsate last week. Any ideas where I can look into it? Thanks

I've seen this occasionally too. So far, in every case, I was able to
overcome it by *waiting*. It may take a half hour or so to complete. But it
normally will complete if you have the patience of Job! Usually you will see
that your hard disk is working during this time. Albeit, slowly!

Was PS2 part of the update last week? If so, SP2 turns on the firewall
by default and I have seen the firewall block the updates. (Go
figure!).
Also, I would make sure you don't have any other tasks running in the
background while doing an update. You should do this with no other
programs running. Also, MS update site gets inundated from time to
time and cannot provide updates as well to slow connections. Are you
broaband or dialup? Those are just a few ideas.

Good Luck,

OR - go into WU Home with AV and Firewall OFF/DISABLED - run Express for the
criticals - see what is no offer -print off the list - then go into
download.search on MS site - search for each KB one at a time and in the
order as printed - download to disk or desktop - then leave MS site -
disconnect from the net - keep AV etc off and all other progs not needed to
be running as suggested already, and install again in the order given -
reboot after each one as a matter of course, even if not asked to - there
was one recent update where reboot was not offered and because this was not
done, problems were caused.
After each install and reboot, check Add/Remove to see that they are there.
They will of course not be in your History Folder in WU Home.
It is a long method but does get the job done faster than waiting for MS to
download and install if that is a problem for you.
After the last reboot don't forget to enable all your security progs :-) and
reconnect to the net
