WMP9 sound hangs on start of track

I've got a HP Pavilion 846n tower. Audigy 2 sound. When playing a cd, or a
recorded playlist, WMP hesitates playing on the start of a new track. I've
tried a number of things including, playing with the hardware acceleration
on the sound card, and turning off all the "spyware" setting in WMP.
Nothing seems to help. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance
