WMP 11 Corrupted Display/Files??

This is very strange. I have Albums titles displaying with song information
in the other columns that doesn't relate to that Album, but rather another
album. Note that the corrupt named song appears as correct against the album
to which it belongs.

When I play the corrupt item, the actual song from the displayed album
plays. i.e. not the title name that is actually displayed. I've looked at the
files in Explorer and everything looks fine. I've tried deleting the WMP
database to force it to regenerate, but it does so with the same corrupt
data. When I play a music file by double clicking it in Explorer it starts in
WMP and highlights the corrupt line of information.

This all happened following a CD Rip when the last track took an inordinate
length of time to complete. Don't know whether this is a coincidence or
whether the rip process overwrote some music file data. But if the latter had
happended the files would have been corrupted and wouldn't be accessible. I'm
really perplexed!

Any help greatly appreciated.

As I've had no replies to this post I thought I'd update with what I've found
out since the post.

It would appear that my music files got corrupted somehow, not as I
originally thought the WMP database. I suspect this happened when I last
tried to Sync my Archos with WMP. At the time I attempted to sync the amount
of new data being added to the Archos exceeded the available memory. I
wrongly thought that the sync would go ahead up to the limit of the available
memory. However, it would appear that not only didn't the sync happen, but
also the persoanl ratings I had set up orginally in WMP got deleted in the
Archos records. Worse than this the original music files on my PC got
overwritten in some of the data fields. In fact things like the Artist and
Album name got written from one music file to another. Of course I could be
wrong about how this corruption occurred. Nevertheless I've ended up with a
monumental manual task to correct the data. I would therefore strongly advise
anyone using WMPand the Archos players to backup their PC and Archos music
files in case they suffer similar problems.

But beware that it won't necessarily be immediately obvious when then
corruption occurs. You will need to examine the WMP data before doing a
backup, otherwise you could end up with your backed up files also corrupted.
The thing to look out for in the WMP "Songs" view with the extended Album
info dispalyed (CD image etc) is duplicates of any CD image. Then look more
closely at the songs listed within each CD list to make sure the titles are
actually correct for that CD. If the titles are wrong in one or more lists
they will be the ones that have been corrupted. You can see the correct data
for each title by looking at the properties form the right click menu. You
can use the properties data as the source for correcting each title. But
there is more to do to get the title back under the correct CD header. Much
to much to explain here unless someone specifically asks for help.

Good Luck, Maurice

At last I've found someone with the same problem. My WMP info was also
corrupted when syncing to my Archos 705. All the tracks have mixed up under
the wrong albums, the album title matches the tracks, the artist and year
match the art. It is also showing too many albums. All the music on the c
drive is correct, its just gone wrong in WMP. I have 50GB of memory left on
the Archos so I haven't exceeded the limit. It was only the second time I've
synced - The Archos is new. Could you please advise on how to get round this.

Hi after contact with my com puter manufacturer, discussions on Archos
usergroup etc I am still no closer to solving this problem. Really not sure
where to start here and I would be extremely grateful if you could get back
to me and let me know how you sorted it out. The c drive is corrupt and all
my personal ratings have also been wiped on the archos, but other than that
the music on the Archos seems fine.
Please, please , please reply.
