WMI Provider

I have been receiving the following message after I access Windows Mail.

WMI PROVIDER HOST STOPPED WORKING AND WAS CLOSED.
A problem caused the application to stop working correctly. Windows will
notify you if a solution is available.

Needless to say Windows has never responded with a solution or, hint as to
what is causing this action.

Would appreciate some help in getting this resolved.

Thanks.

Open Control Panel>select Problem Reports and Solutions>check for new
solutions.
Your error is one of many that is seen by many people.

Thanks Mac,
I did what you said and, it appears that the problem is with "McAfee Spam
Killer". After checking on the McAfee's website, I find that this has been an
ongoing problem with McAfee and, that they are working on a solution. (Seems
that they have working of it for quite a while)

Again, thanks.

I can only suggest that you remove McAfee from your system before it
possibly corrupts your mail store?

Get a free AV application from the web, I use AVG free, others use Avast
free.

Disable any email scan options.

Thanks Steve,
I did what you said and, determined that the problem is being caused by
McAfee Spam Killer and, further found that it has been an ongoing problem
with McAfee. They seem to continue saying that they are working on the
problem, but yet have found the solution.

Again, thanks for your help

McAfee (and Norton) always have compatibility problems with Windows.
There is only one solution that provides 100% relief.

NOD32, while not cheap, works well with Vista.

Avast! is free and does everything a home user needs.
With any anti-virus, do a Custom install and don't install Email Scanning.
It provides absolutely no additional protection and causes problems. It's
just a marketing gimmick.

I'm pretty sure that the above problem IS NOT caused by Mcafee.

I say this (despite it contradicting every forum I have read on the
issue) because I am running Vista Ultimatex64 on a Dell XPS 1710, and do
not run McAfee. I do however have the same problem very frequently. I am
running Trendmicro, but will this have the same effect and if so how do
I cure this problem?

Thanks

A recent version of the Trend antivirus software (details unknown) is
also known to cause various problems in Windows Mail, although
seldom immediately, and the only way to stop it from causing
problems is to uninstall it.

I'm not familiar with 64 bit antivirus software to replace it, but you
might see if either avast! or AVG will work in 64 bits, preferably
after a custom install that tells it to leave out the part that scans
email:

Thanks for the heads up. Since you are the first person I have seen
anywhere identify Trend as a culprit do you mind quoting your source?
Just making sure that you don't work for AVAST :D !!!!

Unfortunately Trend was the best recomended x64bit software and I may
have to stick with it and just curse the error when it happens. Of
course if anyone out there CAN recommend a x64 bit antivirus I would be
glad to hear about it.

Cheers

Previous problems on this newsgroup. I didn't record them.

I'm retired, so I don't work for anyone.

Avast doesn't charge for a free home version, so why should it
make a difference?
