Cannot access IE via a weblink

Having just changed to Vista I'm having a minor problem that defeats me.
My Internet Explorer seems to work OK but if I receive an E Mail with a web
link, when I click on it I get a window "Internet Explorer has stopped
working. a problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows
will close the program and notify you if a solution is available" And of
course nothing else happens.
If I cut and paste the address into IE I get through alright.
Any light you can throw on this will be appreciated.

Start | Default Programs
Make sure Internet Explorer has all its defaults.

Thanks for that Frank but I have already checked this following your help on
an earlier issue and it has had no effect.

Try resetting Internet Explorer: Tools, Internet Options, Advanced, Reset.

I'm afraid you have me stumped.
Just make sure both Windows Mail and IE have all their defaults,
and the only place where you can be sure of that is by running
the Default Programs applet.
