Wireless Router...

Hi,
I have a desktop wired to a TEW-435BRM 11g wireless ADSL modem/router and a
11g wireless enabled laptop, both XP. I used the Windows Wireless Wizard to
set up the network, transferring the settings via flashdrive. it works great
when it's up and running, my gripe is that after every shutdown, the next day
I have to open the routers config and refresh the wireless settings before
the laptop will 'see' the network. Is this normal?

No, not normal. What do you mean by "open the router's config"....do you
mean you have to go to the router's internal management page? Is the wired
desktop working when the wifi goes out? Do you have another wireless-capable
device you can use to test with? Also, you might contact the WAP/router
manufacturer to make sure you have the latest firmware.

are you against the latest firmware even if that is what will solve your
problem? just curious.

Are you using the DHCP aspect of the router to assign an IP to the laptop?
what is the lease time?

What are the wireless settings in your router? is it set to broadcast the
SSID?

What are the wireless settings in your laptop?

Do you have the wireless security set up?

Sorry if I didn't make it clear, I meant, there isn't any new firmware.
I'm a bit out of my depth here but I'll try and answer your questions.
*DHCP is on
*SSID is off
*WEP is on and set up
*WAP is set to trusted stations only, with the laptop's Mac inserted.
?? Lease time?? Sorry that one's beyond my experience.

I'm not a total expert, but with SSID off the laptop cannot "see" the
wireless when it goes to search for service. I suppose that it means that it
can't get an IP address since it did not connect with the DHCP service. You
might try to turn SSID broadcast on and see if that helps.
I assume that several others will now get on and argue. If so, we might all
learn. Let us know if this works.

The manual suggests that once up and running, the SSID be set to 'hidden'.
I'll try the opposite to see if it has any effect.

If it helps I downloaded new firmware and installed to the router from here...

You will have to choose which version you require by checking the sticker on
the bottom of your router, my version was the 15 VAC -- 1.0A (V1) Just follow
instructions.

I also cleared the 'Hidden' setting for SSID. Hope this helps, post back
here to let myself and others know.

Found this thread whilst looking on Google about the same router. I have
exactly the same problem. It works fine until a period of non-use, e.g.
while I am at work. The wireless signal disappears although the router
lights and the web console imply that it is still there. Changing a
parameter in the config usually gets it going again. Seems like it goes to
sleep for some reason. Hard reset also works.

My setup uses static dhcp, ssid is on and no wep enabled. (Wireless is
locked down by mac address only at present). Not sure that the dhcp lease
time can be set, nor do I know what value it is set to.

Looks like this might be a fault on this model??

Doesn't sem to be a specific problem of your router. I have the same
or a similar problem with a Sitecom Access Point (Model WL105b).
After some hours (no idea how long it really takes) I have no
connection to the network but the Acces Point is reachable with its IP
address. I have to login as admin and reset it. Afterwards I ccan
access my network.
Don't know if this is normal, but it's annoying for sure.

Try checking the models web site for a firmware update. It solved my problem.
