Wireless printer IP address

Is there anything I can run from a Command window to find the I address of a
wireless printer that's connected to my network? I know I can find it by
accessing my router and looking at what's connected, but I'm trying to help
a friend over the phone, and I'm not too sure she'd be able to check that. I
was hoping for a command like IPCONFIG, but nothing comes to mind :-(

That should be "IP address".

That should be "IP address".

My Xerox wireless printer gives a status page when it's switched on. The
IP address is still being searched for at swich-on time, but if you
print a status after a few minutes the address is provided. I then have
created an icon on the desktop that just contains that address. When
clicked on it provides current status. I have a static IP address.
If you have the printer manual it might tell you in there.

Thanks for that, Robin. I downloaded the manual for her printer (HP C7280
AIO), and should be able to talk her through printing out a self-test
report. Hopefully we can go from there. If worse comes to worst, I guess
I'll have to take a ride out to visit. It's not all that far, but coinciding
our schedules will definitely be fun.

It might be as easy as clicking on "Printers", right-clicking on the
printer, selecting "Properties" and then on "Print test page" in
"General". It gives a port address that looks like an IP address to me.

That's part of the problem. She got a new cable modem/router combo from her
ISP (her old one died), and she can't "see" the printer in order to print
the test page. I was going to have her re-run the setup program and let it
find it (that's what worked for me a while back), but we've had storms in
the area lately, and she lost power last night, and has been too busy to
worry about the printer right now. I swear, I wasn't near this busy before I
retired, and she wasn't either :)

As a follow-up, I tried that on my HP, and it doesn't list the IP anywhere
on the page. Maybe that's a Xerox thing?

Could well be. My printer also has a complex hierarchy of panels for
displaying and setting all of the printer parameters or displaying them.
I have not mastered this, preferring to do it by software, but there's a
Menu button that leads to Configuration pages, each of which can be
printed.
Running the setup program should find the printer.

The printer MAY have a way to print a test page from its front panel
controls. See the manual.

You might try to do the "print settings" in a support tab, if there.
On my Brother, I can right-click properties, then a couple of more
clicks to a "print settings" which gave me a detail history & how much
more life the drum had before replacement as well as how many times I
changed the toner; on the 3rd page of the printouts, I see everything
about its net settings including ipv6 (disabled), mac, ipaddr & how
it got it.

I can also print the net settings by holding down the "go" button for
about 10 sec or so until the status button turns from the normal green
to yellow.

Don't recall your printer model, etc but something similar "should" be
available also.....my Brother is a 2005 model so any newer printers
"should" be just as friendly?

If you had read the whole thread, you would have seen that I already
mentioned that. But thanks for posting :)

In order to do that, you first have to have the printer listed in Devices
and Printers, and have it on-line. Otherwise, it's grayed out, because as
far as Windows is concerned, the drivers are there but the printer isn't.
Most of the things you're mentioning I can access from the setup page in IE,
but if the IP is unknown . . . Well, you get the picture.

I had same problem when I first installed mine. I think it told me to
use "Add printer" on the printer tab, then set it up for a networked
printer. Eventually you find a "search for printer" tab, and it goes
out to search for it. Then there's another tab that allows you to
select driver. It's so long ago I've forgotten the details.

Yeah, I tried it with my Brother to see where it was to give
directions--oops, I don't see it, either. While I have seen the IP in
the firmware updater (the driver tells me when there are firmware
updates) I can't find it anywhere in the normal control program.
