Wireless Mouse Light Stays On

Ed.

I have the Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop Pro which has the Microsoft
Wireless Natural MultiMedia Keyboard and the Microsoft Wireless Optical
Mouse.

When I turn off the computer or use STR (Suspend To Ram), the mouse light
don't go out. The mouse plug on the receiver was originally in the PS/2 port
like instructions suggessted during install. I then moved it to a USB port
and still the light stays on at shutdown. The keyboard plug on the receiver
is still in the PS/2 port. I do have a motherboard that can enable USB
keyboard support in BIOS but I have disabled since not using keyboard as
USB. However the USB mouse is enabled in BIOS.

Does anyone know if this is by design and if the light is supposed to stay
on? I just bought and installed it today and curious. It seems like the
light being on all the time would shorten the battery life.

Appreciate and information anyone can provide.

Thank You,
Ed.

well, if it makes you feel any better, the light on my MS wireless
mouse stays on even if the computer is off.

I am curious to know why you moved the mouse to USB. I have only the
mouse, but I am considering buying the new keyboard/mouse combo (the
one with the tilt wheel) and one of the reasons I am thinking of doing
that is so I can plug both into the ps/2 ports and free up a USB port
that the mouse is using now. I have too many damned usb devices and
too many of them are prima donnas that don't like being plugged into
the hub. I tried putting the mouse on the hub, but that did not work
out too well.

I moved it to USB because I saw somewhere someone said if you did that might
work and the light would go out when you shut down. My light stays on also
if I shut down.

I know I have another computer with an older motherboard. I had one of those
MS Intel mice or whatever it was called and it wasn't cordless. In the PS/2
port the light would not go off. I put it in the USB port and it would go
off.

I had the same mouse on this computer which has a newer motherboard in it
and the light on that mouse went off when shut down no matter if it was the
PS/2 port or the USB port.

The mouse will stay on because it has no way of knowing the PC is turned
off. If the MS mouse works anything like the Logitech models, the mouse
will go to low power state after a period of inactivity. It will do so best
if left sitting on a light colored surface, rather than a dark one.

Also, keep the mouse on a mouse pad or something. Don't leave it
sitting on a glass-topped table. I notice this will confuse the heck
out of the machine and the battery will die overnight. Guess it sees it
as a bottomless hole or something and keeps firing the laser.
