wireless keyboard installation

I have a Gateway Pentium III desktop (purchased 2001) running Windows XP
home. I recently decided to install the Microsoft wireless keyboard and
mouse, Laser Desktop 6000 model. The two components work very well; however,
the computer will not recognize either component on startup. I had to plug
in the old PS/2 keyboard so that Windows could start, even though the
wireless works fine. Can I purchase a USB to PS/2 adapter to solve this
problem? Is there some other change I need to make? Or should I just leave
the old keyboard plugged into the PS/2 port under the desk?

Hi scottfmd,

Reboot the computer and go into Computer BIOS. Look to see if your
Computer has USB Keyboard Support in BIOS. Enable it.

I went into BIOS; I saw "Legacy USB enabled" but nothing to indicate USB
keyboard support. However, I was able to disable the keyboard warning on
startup and this seems to have fixed the problem. It boots without a
keyboard or mouse warning and everything seems to work fine. Let me know if
you forsee any problem with this approach. Thanks.
