Wireless KB & Mouse don't work

I just got a MS Wireless Keyboard 1.0 and wireless optical mouse.
Neither work. I've switched USB ports, swapped batteries, hit the reconnect
buttons, whacked the old mouse drivers and nothing. So now I'm writing this
using the old Dell KB and Logitech mouse. Suggestions?

Have you restarted the system after everything is properly plugged in?
What does "Switched USB ports" mean? Do you mean external power supply
to the USB hub?

I had a similar problem but switching off and switching on the PC
usually corrected everything.

I just went through this a few days ago and posted my issues here as
well. With this keyboard set you must first install the software to
load the drivers. Then you have to connect the USB cable and reboot.
The keyboard and mouse should be loaded on reboot. Luckily, you have
already have a working keyboard and mouse because you wouldn't be able
to load the software without an already functioning keyboard. BTW, I
took mine back for other reasons, but had no trouble getting it to
load.

Thanks for all the response.

To Mike Hall - Yes, I followed the instructions verbatim. Twice.

To ANONYMOUS - My PC has six USB ports > 2 off the mobo riser, two off the
USB / IEEE 1340 (Firewire) card, and two on the front of the case.

To Shartley - I whacked all the other keyboard/mouse software, and the
installed the Intelli--- 5.2 software. Plugged in the transmitter, got real
pretty green lights to start flashing, and nothing. Used AA batteris from an
unopend pack with an expiration date of Dec 2012. The mouse lit up.

So, I'll try it again tonight.

Well, gang, I whacked ALL of the other software, drivers, devices, and what
not.
I installed the MS Intelli* software (5.3KB; 5.2 Mouse). Rebooted the PC
even though the software didn't say to. Plugged in the receiver. WinXP SP2
said it found all of the new hardware. Placed receiver on top of computer
hutch, about 20" above worksurface. Hit Connect button on mouse. hit connect
button on receiver. hit connect button on KB. hit connect button on receiver.
Plenty of lighting on the receiver. Red light shines bright on mouse.
Nothing works.
As my cousin the U-Boat Kaptain might say, "Sheiss!!"
