WinXP waits during boot

Hi there,
I have a fresh WinXp install on my new harddisk since a week and
everything was working fine. Now I have installed some prg, deleted 2
of the total 3 user names again, renamed the administator name and
some things more. Now, after entry of the password the win desktop
appears, some of the prg in the taskbar appear (Norton Antivirus is
doublecrossed as inactive) and Win XP waits for about 60-70 sec, then
suddenly there is harddisk activity again, Norton Antivirus becomes
active, the other prg load and everything is working as usual. I saw
in the taskmonitor that WinXp is not recognizing the username during
this period. When I use the "sign of user" command and sign in again
the whole thing does not happen, everything is there in 5-10 sec. When
I start from a turned off PC the wait period is back again...
Strang things - any comments?
Thanks a lot
Tom.

Tom,

I think a malware check would be a very good idea. Get Spybot S&D and
HijackThis, with expert advice from SWI Forums. Start with this
