The suggestion is the final version maybe 5.1.2600.5573.

I'm going to hold off and let it and all the patches show up on Windows
Update.

Someone already in another thread says that the FAQ on the root of the
CD refers to SP2 not SP3. A typo already reported to MS.

There are such typos in all Windows. There are still one or two in XP. (Ya
think?!)

Personally, I'm in no great rush to install SP3. I'll wait while you early adopter types work out any kinks.

Well since I had access to the update I went ahead with it. There are
no issues to report for it other than one minor one (I'll create a
seperate post about it). It does not affect function however.

Anything is *possible* - it is not plausible.

That is the version your "winver" command should tell you on a machine with
Windows XP with Service Pack 3 RTM installed - yes.
