Hi,

I am trying to get my ICS working, I can access the file sharing and printer
sharing but cannot get access to the web from the client machines.

Settings
Host IP 192.168.0.1, 255.255.255.0
Client IP 192.168.0.100, 255.255.255.0, 192.168.0.1 with DNS 192.168.0.1.

Any ideas, I have tried with and without the windows firewall and Zonelabs.

I have come to the end of the line trying to work it out

thanks

the client should use the same DNS as the ics host and that should be ips
dns.

The settings that you list look fine, assuming that you've set the
client's default gateway to 192.168.0.1.

These tests should help you find the problem:

1. On the host computer, right click the local area network connection
and click Status | Support | Details. It should show:

IP Address: 192.168.0.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: none
DNS Server = none

2. On the client computers, right click the local area network
connection and click Status | Support | Details. It should show:

IP Address: 192.168.0.x (1<x<255)
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1
DNS Server = 192.168.0.1 or your ISP's DNS server

3. If #1 and #2 are right, open a command prompt window on the clients
and enter these lines. Each one should get four replies:

ping 192.168.0.1
ping 216.239.39.99
ping google.com

4. If #1-#3 are right, enter these addresses in Internet Explorer.
They should both take you to the Google web page:

http://216.239.39.99
http://google.com

Steve,

Thanks for the advice, unfortunately it did not seem to solve the problem.
I am able to ping all the items on my network but cannot get out to the
internet.

I am using a wireless router connected to the XP machine but have also tried
it with the hard wired lan cable also.

Any other advise would be gratefull received

Nigel

Please describe exactly which tests (1-4) succeed and which tests
failed. What error messages accompanied the failures?
