winxp pro install problem

When I try to install Windows XP Pro over Windows ME I get
the error message "PROCESS1_INITIALIZATION_FAILED" with
***STOP: 0x0000006b (0xC000003A, 0x00000002, 0x00000000,
0x00000000)
Everything goes fine up until actual installation begins -
ie:Computer Analysis OK, Updates OK, Files Copied OK.
The only new hardware installed are a Western Digital 80G
HDD and a Pioneer DVD burner but diagnostics find no
problems with these.
Can anyone tell me what this error message refers to and
what if anything can be done to overcome the problem.
(Until recently, I had WinXP Pro running on this computer
for three years with no problems at all, but since
encountering this specific problem after a recent format,
I reinstalled ME and it is working beautifully. I just
want my XP back!!!)

Thanks everyone

Install a fresh copy of WinXP! An upgrade from WinME
involves so many compromises that your machine will never
run as well as it would with a clean installation.

I really appreciate your response Pegasus, but I've tried
a clean install with similar results, however, failing
some new advice, I intend trying clean install again and
again. I would be interested to know what the error
message "process1_initialization_failed" actually means
and what it is referring to and is there a remedy!!

I have never seen this error message. If I wanted to find out
then I would check Google or the Microsoft Knowledge Base.

Thanks again mate. I'll try what you suggested and keep
you posted since, not having seen this message before, you
may be interested in what I eventually come up with.
