Cannot upgrade from 98SE to XP Pro

Every time I do this I get "PROCESS1_INITIALIZATION_FAILED" with an error
code 0x0000006B (0xC000000D, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x00000000).

My system is pretty vanilla now (I only have a video card, and a NIC in for
DSL connection, that's it). I don't get any problems listed when I select
the default 'Show me if there is a problem' reports. And if I get a full XP
advisor output it says MTS and P2P won't work afterwards. Which is fine
with me as it doesn't work now, I just can't delete it from the Add/Remove
program.

So can anybody help me and tell me why its not working and what I can do
about it?

Thanks,
Kevin

Thanks for the reply. Unfortuneately I have not added GoBack to my system.
I did have Norton Systemworks 2003 on this machine at one time but I
uninstalled it a while ago in preparation to upgrade to XP Pro.

Just in case something in screwy I have deleted all references to GoBack
(none there anyways), Norton, CleanSweep, Symantec and SystemWorks off this
HD and Registry.

Thanks for the idea though,

Kevin

Hi Kevin,

From your reply, it seems that you have not installed Roxio Goback or
Norton System Works in your system.

To troubleshoot the issue further, make sure that any new hardware or
software is properly installed.

You should disable any new hardware or software to see if these are the
source of the problem.

NOTE: You may have to press F8 to start in Safe mode.

Disable any BIOS memory options like caching or shadowing.

If the problem still persists, then the problem might be due to a damaged
files system or partition. To resolve this issue follow the steps given
below:

1. Boot to the recovery console (you will notice that there is no prompt to
choose the operating system or for an administrator's password, just a C:
prompt)

2. Run a chkdsk /r.

I hope the above information helps you resolve the issue.
