Hi,

Would appreciate that some kind souls to help me?

I have installed Mcafee 4.5.1 SP1 onto my new IBM XP
machine. But after sometime or a few reboots, the machine
starts to become slow.

I looked at the performance in Task Manager. It always
stays at 100% CPU utilisation. After I end the vshield
task, the performance % dropped drastically down to less
than 10%.

Wonder anybody had come across this situation.
Had tried serveral solutions in the website and from NAI
but the problem still exist.

Could someone out there help me please.

From previous experience, I have always had problems with
McAfee being a cpu hog and really slowing down the
system. I have since changed to Norton and am overly
satisfied with the product. No substantial system
degradation.

That would've been my assessment as well. Although I
prefer TrendMicro (mostly for the email) I would agree
that McAfee is a big CPU user.

Hi

A friend of mine has the same problem on a custom build
machine with XP Pro. I'll let you know if I find an
answer.

McAfee's Real-Time-Scanner will impact the performance of your
PC. Unfortunately, this is a trait of McAfee that dates back several
years/versions. You might try to update your software and see if
the patches will improve the situation. Otherwise, your only other
option is to uninstall McAfee and purchase a different Anti-Virus
software package. There are a number of Free/Shareware versions
that you can try before deciding.
