WinXP Home Edition Explorer.exe error

Omar

Hi there,
I have this Dell PC that, out of the blue, has started
displaying this message at startup. It the stops going
any further when you OK the message. Anyone seen this?
error: Explorer.exe "The application failed to initialize
properly 0xc0000006" Click on OK to terminate the
application.
Any help appreciated. Thanks.

My experience with Dells is that when something like this happens,
hardware has failed. You can run memory and hard drive tests yourself,
or call Dell tech support. One thing to check before you do: there are
four little lights on the back of the pc. They should all be green. Are
some of them amber?

Dell also has some hardware diagnostic software on their Resource disk,
I believe, although I have had machines with bad hardware that didn't
test bad with Dell's own software.

Thankyou very much for your help. All LED's are A OK no
problems visible there. I personally suspect a corruption
of the OS.. or some other "undocumented feature" of Uncle
Billy's Magnum Opus!

I rather doubt there is any "undocumented feature" that is troubling
you. Most errors come from users installing incompatible hardware,
software, malware, not having a current antivirus installed, that sort
of thing. Sometimes hardware is to blame, electrical surges/outages.
There is no perfect hardware. There is no perfect software. But if you
don't like Windows, there are always alternatives.

If you have tested the hardware (and I would definitely test the RAM
with something like Memtest86) and it is good, try a Repair Install:
