Explorer.EXE - Application Error

I installed upgrades on a Windows XP Home.

When trying to reboot, as windows starts, I get the message:

Explorer.EXE - Application Error
The application failed to intialize properly (0xc0000006). Click on OK
to terminate the application.

When I click OK, the message repeats once, and then I just get a blank
screen that I cannot do anything with.

Any chance of recovering this???

It is a Fujitsu laptop. They only provide a disk to restore to the
original distribution. If I run this, I then have to reinstall all
software and hopefully get most of the data restored.

Can you get into safe mode so you can look at the event log or at least get
the data off the machine before you have to reload?

Things to try:

1. Safe Mode. To get to the Safe Mode menu (and other options)
repeatedly tap the F8 key as the computer is starting up. Once in Safe
Mode, uninstall the updates or do a System Restore.

2. If you can't get into Safe Mode, try Last Known Good Configuration.

3. If #2 above doesn't work, try Safe Mode Command Prompt and do a
System Restore:
c:\Windows\System32\restore\rstrui.exe [enter]
