IE gives "dwwin.exe" Application error

This is a friends computer, "Dell Inspiron 2650 Laptop".
OS is XP Home edition. When I try to get online using IE,
I get "dwwin.exe-Application Error". "The application
failed to initialize properly (0xc0000006). Click OK to
terminate the application." Any idea how to fix this
problem?

This can be an annoying problem.It is an error reporting
tool to send feedback to MicroSoft. The easiest way to fix
it is to disable it. Right click MyComputer,Properties,
Advanced tab and at the bottom click on Error
Reporting.Then disable error reporting.
Now click Start, Run, type "services.msc "(no quotations).
You'll want to find error reporting service on the list
and then right click on it and select properties.Change
the Startup Type to "Disabled" This should fix your
problem.

*:\windows\system32\dwwin.exe

A. Trojans

1. Check in at Windows Update and install all critical updates & reboot.

2. Download and run Stinger (http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/); then...

3. Update your virus definitions, enable Show Hidden Files

and then run a full system scan in Safe Mode

with nothing else running in background. Note the files identified and
removed then find the corresponding page for the file at your AV maker's
online support pages (e.g.,
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/adware.winfavorites.html)
and follow *all* Removal steps, including editing the Registry if directed.

WinXP Only (WinME similar): If this scan finds anything, create a new
Restore Point then:

Disk Cleanup > More options > Delete all but the most recent Restore
Point.

use. It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware.
