Hello everyone,
I am having a bad time with my windows xp OS. When I booted the pc up I am
getting the bsod stating: unmountable_boot_volume - OK looked up the error on
MS and it said a driver needs to be uninstalled (last driver installed was a
MS keyboard) tried to boot up into safe mode and it died won't let me boot up
in safe mode - OK so tried to boot up in last good configuration won't let me
get the unmountable error - now getting desperate - tried to run recovery
console off the winxp install disk - goes through the loading files setup and
type in R to start recovery mode - again get the bsod stating:
driver_irql_not_less_or_equal - now really really deserate tried to reinstall
winxp but get the same error msg: driver_irql_etc.
I am up the river w/o a paddle and don't know what else to do - need help
I don't believe that this has any bearing on this issue but about a week ago
I had to take the computer to a computer tech (a pro w/own business) to
replace the motherboard cause the old one died.
Any help on this issue would be most appreciated.
Thanks
Jerry

Simple enough,if you replaced MB,even with the same model, mfg do change
some hardware/chips/etc with diffrent ones, your MB might have slight
diffrence than older one.If the BIOS is set correctly, set xp cd as 1st boot
device,
hd 2nd,format and reinstall xp.If data on old hd is needed, purchase new hd
to install xp on,once thru, connect old hd & retrieve data, then format in
xp,use
as storage after...

OK, if I understand you correctly this is a MB issue? because I was able to
use the computer for almost a week before I started to get the BSOD. Then
yesterday the computer just refused to boot up after I replaced a keyboard
and I know that just replacing a keyboard won't cause a problem like this.

We need the error messages in the Event Viewer by doing
this:
Open a Notepad, customize or minimize to the taskbar as you will need it
later for this step to copy the error message on it.
Open a run command and type in:
eventvwr.msc click [OK] you will get the Event viewer control Panel.
click on each of these:
Application
System
Security
Look in the right Pane/window for error message with red (X) or Yellow
exclamation mark /!\ , double click each one to get more info about the
causer.
On the Event error properties message you will see:
Up Arrow
Down arrow
Two pages
Click on the two pages to copy the error message then bring up the Notepad
you opened earlier and right click on the first line and select Paste from
the list, this will paste the error message on a Notepad.
Please don't duplicate the error message one of each kind will be sufficient.
HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP

Please we need just the error messages with Red (X) and don't repeat the
error, just one of each kind and post them back in your next post.

Hi Nass,
I truly wish I could get into the event viewer, however, as I stated in my
original message, I can't boot up into the desktop at all - I can't even
bootup into safe mode, in fact I can't bootup at all in any way whatsoever.
Sorry, I wish I could get the info you need but I would suggest you re-read
my original message so that you will understand just what I am up against.
Thanks,
Jerry

After re-reading:

Perform a Repair Installatio
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/learnmore/tips/doug92.mspx

If the above didn't help the I will assume the HDD dead and you can know
that by running a test by using the Manufacturer Diagnostic Tools.

Try to hook up this HDD as Slave on another NT machine to rescue your Data
and then wipe out the HDD clean. Set the CD to be your First Boot Option and
then the HDD in the BIOS.
