PAGE_FAULT Error During Installation

Hello

My Windows XP will not boot up. The PC gets through the POST and memory
check but when Windows starts to load, it flashes a BSOD for a split second
(too fast to read anything) and reboots. Trying to boot the Safe Mode does
the same.

So I tried to reinstall the Windows from scratch, the setup program started
OK, I hit F6 when prompted, selected my RAID drivers to be installed from the
floppy, then Windows Setup copied a bunch of additional drivers and I thought
everything would go smoothly when the BSOD with PAGE_FAULT popped out. This
time it stayed on the screen. The same happens everytime I try to install
Windows.

Is that a hardware problem? If so, what would be the most likely cause?

Thanks for the replies,

Greg

Thanks for the replies,

Your error message is very likely a STOP 0x00000050:
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA.

One common cause of this particular error is defective RAM. Download
one of the following free memory test utilities and run the test for
an extended period, such as overnight.
DocMemory http://www.simmtester.com
Windows Memory Diagnostic http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp
Memtest86: http://www.memtest.org

Good luck

Page Faults on installation are almost always due to faulty, mismatched or
cheap RAM.

Hello

Thank you guys for your replies. Turns out one of the memory sticks has gone
sount on me. I did not use any of the testing programs, just started yanking
out the RAM and trying to boot and on my second try the PC started up. So all
I need is just new stick of RAM.
