WinXP deployment through RIS results in strange 'invalid domain' e

When running RIS to install several of our +/- 300 computers with a rippreped
Windows XP SP2 installation, we get the following error at the point it tries
to join the domain right after "installing network": 'An invalid domain was
specified'

I noticed that when i first reset the computer account trough ADUC and only
then start the RIS installation, the installation progresses without problems.

I find this strange, because i never had this behaviour before. Reinstalling
was no problem, clean install was no problem, but now we are getting this
strange error.
Also, when we get the error and at that point reset the computer strangly it
IS joined to the domain and we are able to login to the domain.

Anyone who has any clue about how to approach this strange behaviour?

Grx,
Joris

This is becoming a major problem for our educational program.

I'v again reinstalled several computer and still recieve the Invalid domain
specified error.
Also when i look at the eventviewer entries for the pc's i notice 2 strange
errors:
Eventid: 5788 and 5789 from source NETLOGON.

These events not only occour on faulty computers, but also on correctly
installed PC's so i dont think this has got to do something with the error.
But i thought it was worthy of posting.

Important info: I'v yust run a RIS installation again and sit out the
complete installation to see if there are any strange things. Nothing besides
the error.
I must say i didn't presicely wrote down what happend next after the error.
When the error occours i reset the pc, when booted up it resumes form where
it installes the netwokparts again and then it joines the domain. This is
where the first try goes wrong. But strangely now all goes well.

So when the error occours i reset the pc, it restarts the setup from the
point it is going to install networkparts and then the join domain is going
withour error's.

How strange is this?

I'v yust looked at the eventviewer of the now installed pc and found a
strange error (Shown below, sorry it's in Dutch). It tries to update it's
data on server 10.1.1.1, but that's a non existing ip. Strange, because in
the DNS-Serverlist it's displaying the correct DNS servers: 10.6.0.3 and
10.6.0.4. It schould update it's data at one of those servers, not 10.1.1.1

Het systeem kan de host (A)-bronrecords (RR's) niet registreren voor de
netwerkadapter
met de volgende instellingen:

Adapternaam: {EEDF646D-14D2-43D0-A8C4-B3EE0A48E5C7}
Hostnaam: 618PC38
Primair domeinachtervoegsel: domain.nl
DNS-serverlijst:
10.6.0.3, 10.6.0.4
Update verzonden naar server: 10.1.1.1
IP-adres(sen):
10.6.4.22

netwerkbeheerder.
