WinXP crashes on any scan PLEASE HELP!

D

Dan

Running anything from chkdsk to antivirus makes my system
crash midway through the process. Booting to Safe Mode
crashes as well.

Note: I know the system is infected with the blaster worm
but I don't think it has such effects.

I managed to use the repair restore point and logged in as
Administrator. However, trying to access any folder via
explorer also causes the system to hang.

Please help

Thank you.

Kelly, thanks for your prompt response. You're always very
knowledgeable on the newsgroups.

When logged in as admin from the repair restore point, the
system hangs when I try to access certain files. I try to
scan for viruses with my updated definitions to get rid of
the worm, but the system hangs! :(

Any ideas?

I should also add that my computer also crashes during
chkdsk on startup (when windows is recovering from an
error)... I see the WinXP logo, it jumps to chkdsk and if
i don't cancel it once it gets to 30% it crashes.

This is why I can't see how this could be the worm because
my system hasn't even loaded yet.

Kelly,

Sorry to bother you so much.

I ran your vbs script and it said: "the script did not
find the worm, your system has not been cleaned"

ahhh :(

Kelly,

I hate sounding like a broken record. God only knows how
many times you've refered people to that URL today :)

I'm sure its been a long day.

but, I swear to you, I've gone through all those steps
(searched for msblast and tftp files, installed the ms
patches, ran your script, turned on my firewall) to
recover my computer but nothing happens. Whenever I try to
access certain folders (manually or by a scan (antivirus,
chkdsk, etc.) my computer hangs. Explorer stops responding.

Any ideas on what I can do?

Dan,

The symptoms can occur before the exe appears. The manual checkpoints are
