At startup i get:

I had just installed a Windows critical update.

also, i have seen the Microsoft knowledge base article
relating to this, and i cannot boot from the Windows XP CD.
I have gone into the F8 menu, and i am unable to get into
a command prompt. Somebody please help, I have a job
interview tommorrow and my resume was on the computer.
