When I start my computer I get the following errors:

winlogin.exe - Unable To Locate Component
This application has failed tostarted because SHELL32.dll
was not found. Reinstalling this application may fix this
problem.

User Interface Failure
The Logon User Interface Dll msgina.dll failed to load.
Contact your system administrator to replace the DLL, or
restore the original DLL.

Right now Im on my sister's computer. Can someone help me
fix this problem? The only thing I can do on my computer
is restart and see the error messages. HELP ME! thanks.

Winlogin.exe is a file that is associated with several different
viruses.

Make certain your antivirus software is completely up to date with the
virus definition files not more than a week old and do a complete
virus scan of your computer. Or you can do a free online virus scan
at http://housecall.trendmicro.com

If you need a good antivirus program try the free version of AVG6 from
www.grisoft.com

And if you have removed the virus but are still getting error messages
related to winlogin.exe then download, unzip, and run the cleanup
script from MVP Doug Knox's web site:
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/xp_winlogin_remove.htm

Good luck

Yes, that is a tough one that I have been working with many on. I haven't
found a way as of yet to get it work via the RC either.

This can happen from many issues/third party programs. The fix is an easy
one, but crippled when it disables the Welcome Screen, sad to say.

A bit more info on the matter:

The msgina.dll (Graphical Identification and Authentication dynamic-link
library) should be listed in C:\Windows\System32 - Application extention.

This can happen if you installed PCA, VPN Cisco Client, etc. Normally
removing any of the above, the msgina.dll is replaced.

Check here for gina.dll, ginamsi.dll, or CSwgina.dll if either is listed,
remove it, reboot.

Start/Run/Regedit
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current Version\WinLogon.
In the right pane, remove the entry for (XX) and just leave the Gina.DLL
entry.

Or...

Restore the Windows XP Welcome Screen (Gina.dll) Line 45

Other measures to consider if the user is able to boot into the Admin
account:

From an account with Administrator level access

1) Click Start, Run and enter REGEDIT
2) In Regedit, highlight the HKEY_USERS key and go to File, Load Hive.
3) Use the File Open dialog to go to the Documents and Settings\<username>
folder, where <username> is the account you wish to modify.
4) Highlight the NTUSER.DAT file in this folder (usually a hidden file) and
select Open.
5) You'll be prompted to enter a "Key name". You can use whatever you wish,
but I use the User's logon name.
6) You can now expand the Hive you just loaded and make any needed changes.
7) When finished, highlight this Hive again and go to File, Unload Hive.

NOTE: You MUST unload the Hive prior to logging on to the users account.
Otherwise XP may have trouble loading the user's profile.
