my pentium4, windowsxp, netscape7 browser computer will not let me
delete windows media player, which doesn't work right since i downloaded
and then deleted quicktime.
error message says "someone else is using wmp. cannot delete." no one
else is here to use it. i don't know what's wrong.
microsoft says delete old version before downloading new wmp. how can i
do that?
any help will be appreciated. TIA

Windows Media Player cannot be removed from XP, and you are not supposed to
try to delete it. If you have not upgraded to Media Player 9.0 you can do
that. Just install it over your existing version. Keep in mind that it is a
one way trip and the only way to go back to version 8 is to use system
restore. If you already have version 9 just try reinstalling it again.

When you say it doesn't work right, what do you mean specifically? Maybe
someone here will know how to fix it.

I have just formatted my E: XP drive because even after

doing a reinstallation of XP the media player 9 came back
in the same state it was in. Prior to reinstall I tried
removing it as a windows component through the add/remove
programs option, which removes icon but little else, then
both from my program files\windows media player, and from
the internet, I reinstalled it. Only after that and an
attempt to system restore from yesterday did not
work, did I attempt the XP reinstall. Now I can only
do a full new installation of XP.

Copy your XP CD to the hard drive and work from there.
You don't want to be in the position where your XP CD
wears out from over use. Then you wouldn't be able to
have all this fun.
