Windows XP won't talk to Windows 2000 through router.

Here's the issue: I can't get my home machines to talk to each other.
I used to be able to see the "SharedDocs" folder on my wife's system,
but no longer. I've tried several things, but I've run out of ideas.
Here's the basic configuration:

My machine:
Windows 2000 aka Windows 5.0.2195

Her machine:
Windows XP Home Ver. 2002 SP2

Router:
Netgear RP614v2 with latest firmware (v5.20)

The SharedDocs folder appears to be shared properly, and XP doesn't
report any errors on startup. I can see her machine from my Network
Neighborhood, but when I try to get to the SharedDocs folder, I get
"\\HerMachine is not accessible.
The network path was not found."
This used to simply open the SharedDocs folder, and I could copy to
and from it as appropriate. As far as I know, I haven't modified
anything on my (Windows 2000) system that would affect this, but I
don't know what my wife's installed on her (Windows XP) system that
would cause the connection to break. She can still get out through the
router (i.e. Internet) appropriately, but they're not now talking to
each other.

Any ideas on what I should check between the two machines before I
kick the cat?

Make sure no firewall blocks the sharing. Or this troubleshooting may help,

Thanks, there's couple clues there. I'll try them once I'm awake.

Here's a weirdy: I can't get Windows Firewall to start on the XP
system. I can't verify if it's turned on or off.

Go to the services under computer manage to check the Windows firewall/ICS status.

Jwills,

See if you can ping between the machines both by name and IP address. I am
expecting that this will work by IP only. If the IP part doesn't work, it is
probably the router that is blocking it (ICF is possible too though.)

Attachinging by UNC path (\\machinename) likes to use broadcasts to find
other machines. Unfortunately, broadcasts aren't routable. You would have
to create a LMHOSTS file or enable bridgeing between your routed boundaries.
