Windows XP User Profile Change

Question: I have a user that currently logs in as Administrator. I want to
change him to something that reflects his name (e.g. BOB_SMITH) as his
login. However, his desktop is all configured (short cuts, apps, yadda
yadda) under the Administrator account. Is there any way to change it so
that he logs in as BOB_SMITH and keeps his desktop settings? Is it as
simple as copying the c:\documents and settings\Administrator to
c:\documents and settings\BOB_SMITH directory?

Thanks,

Dave

No it will not affect his user settings. Click Start > Control Panel > User
Accounts > click on the persons name > click "Change My Name" > type in new
name and click "Change Name".

You should not let anyone run as 'Administrator' - that is a reserve
account for emergencies-, and you should not try to change its name.

Create a new User account for him; give it Admin status.

If you do not have another Admin status account make one, even if only
temporarily, to work from. Log in on it and copy the folders out of the
Administrator\ profile into his new account. Do not copy the ntuser
files in the \Administrator \ folder itself.

You can then (I think) log in as Administrator, and use regeit.exe to
highlight the whole HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ key; log in on his new account
and import that back so as to transfer settings
