Hi,
I have an Acer laptop and the windows update has operational files
missing. when going in windows update I get a report that important
files are missing. Windows then proceeds to download the missing core
files, but they don't install or work.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Brian:confused:

THANKS NASS. THAT WAS VERY HELPFUL. THANKS AGAIN.

Hi Brian,
It will be helpful if you included the exact Error message with the missing
files for anyone to be able to troubleshoot in the right direction.
Try to Repair your Windows Update Engine, to do that follow these steps to
reregister the DLLs by opening a Run Command and type these Commands
one-by-one and click [Enter] or [OK]:
regsvr32 atl.dll
regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 inetcomm.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wuweb.dll
regsvr32 MSXML3.dll
regsvr32 cryptsvc.dll
regsvr32 dssenh.dll
regsvr32 qmgr.dll
regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 qmgrprxy.dll
regsvr32 wups2.dll
net start wuauserv

Then Restart your machine and try the windows Update website.
Be sure your machine clean from Malwares and you have Anti-virus Application
up2date.
HTH.
Please let us know.

Hi Brian,
Try this:
Open a run command and type:
net start cryptsvc click [OK]
then REboot your computer.
Again open run command and type:
regsvr32 cryptdlg.dll click [OK]
regsvr32 cryptsvc.dll click [OK]
Does your update issue solved regardless of the failing load of this
DLL.
If not try to run this command:
sfc /scannow click [OK] and wait for it to finish and get your XP CD
handy
you may need to insert it in if it asked you to do so.
HTH.

nass

Hi nass,

The first part of your help did not work, cryptsvc.dll would not
reregister, so I did the sfc /scannow. It went through without asking
for Win XP CD-Rom. I then just went to Microsoft Windows Update and it
WORKED ok. The ACER belongs to my wife who is now a Happy Bunny and has
asked me to thank you very much for your help with this problem. I'm
sure it will also help others with the same. Seasons greetings to u and
yours.
Have a nice one.

Kind regards,

Brian :)

Hi, I too got the message
"important files are missing or have been deleted from your computer"
I followed your instructions all the way and including net start wuauserv.
getting the same response as brian half way through, but i clicked ok and
carried on.
I then went straight onto sfc /scannow and my pc scanned and didn't ask for
the cd rom.
I then rebooted and tried windows update and downloaded 16 important
downloads as I havn't had windows update working for nearly 3 months!

I just want to thank Nass for fixing my pc for free!
Thank you very much.
Paul.
