Windows XP takes a long time to close

It seems since the last time I downloaded Microsoft updates, my laptop is
taking a long time to shut down. sometimes it may take 3 to 4 minutes. Is
there a simple fix or is this common with updates?
Please help. No patients

I'm sorry your medical practice is going poorly...

To address your issue, however, I feel it necessary to ask what version of
Windows XP do you have? Home Edition, Professional Edition, etc... Also -
what service pack level are you currently at?

Start button --> RUN --> type in:
winver
--> click OK.

What is the entire "version" line there and what does the picture at the top
of the window that opens say you have (center)...?

This is *not* common with updates - so it is also important we figure out
what updates you recently applied. To that end, if you could go to...

Control Panel --> Add or Remove programs --> "Show Updates" checkbox should
be checked.

Scroll down and look at the "Installed On" dates and jot down anything that
was installed between 'everything happy' and 'everything slowed down'...
Let us know that list.
