Windows XP stops responding at registering components during a windows repair

Workstation with Windows XP Pro crashed during a power
fluctuation. Several XP components were corrupted in the
process. During an attended Windows repair process, setup
stalls at the registering components process (11 to 13
minutes left). Several attempts to restart the recovery
end with the same results. Short of reinstalling Windows
from scratch, what options are available to continue with
the repair.
