I am in the process of repairing an installation of
Windows XP. The installation had SP1 and all other
updates installed. All goes well until the re-registering
components section when the process stalls with the error
message:
unregmp2.exe unable to to find linkin at -getIUMS@4 in
MSDART.DLL
I did have to skip two files earlier - the one for USB
2.0 and the one for VIA AGP.
Is there a solution?/workaround
Fortunately I had already installed a second copy of
Windows XP but it will save a lot of reinstalation if I
can get the original copy working again.

Hi Christopher,

Here are a couple of workarounds that seem to be successful in getting by
the error and completing the install/reinstall:

1) Press Shift +F10 to bring up the Command prompt. Then key in taskmgr.exe
in the DOS window and hit ENTER. The Task Manager should be started. If
not, then try pressing C+Shift+ESC. In the Task Manager window, select the
error messsage window in the application list and click "End Task". In the
process list, terminate the unregmp2.exe program. Exit the DOS prompt window
and resume the installation process.

2) Try holding down the CTRL key and clicking the OK button repeatedly.

Holding down control while pressing the OK button didn't
work.
But Shift + F10 and then using the Task Manager did.
Thanks very much for the information.
