Windows XP Start Up issues

I have a desktop Gateway that I just reinstalled everything about 3 weeks
ago. It is going slow like it did before I did the reinstall and now it
won't boot up. It goes through a normal boot but before it goes to the
welcome screen the screen says "Windows is starting up...". It just sits
there like that.

Thanks!

Will it boot if only keyboard, mouse and monitor are connected?

How much RAM and what processor speed?

How old is the computer?

Hope this helps.

I unplugged everything but the monitor, keyboard, and mouse and it still says
the same thing. I have a Gateway 500C from February 2002. The computer
contains 1Gb of RAM and have a 1.8 G P4 processor
