Windows XP Start Up error

I receive the following error message whenever I start my computer. A window
pops up with: Windows - No Disk There is no disk in the drive. Please insert
a disk into drive. I hit cancel and the window pops up about 6 more times
and I continue to hit cancel. I get one more error window with the following
message: CManager Application fatal error; Unable to load BJCOM runtime. I
cancel that Window as well and my computer runs okay, except I now have
issues with my CD and DVD drives. I cannot record or play CD/DVDs and when I
recently tried to replace the DVD player with a DVD recorder, I could not get
my computer to start up.

I tried performing a clean boot today and was unable to. I was receiving
messages that ony the administrator is allowed to change the settings. Of
course, I am set up as the administrator.

Bad news is that I do not have any original disks as everything was pre
loaded when I bought the computer. I would like to get my CD and DVD drives
running properly and put in the new DVD drive. Can anyone shed some light
on what is going on? Is it possible that I have more than one problem with
my computer or software?

Appreciate any ideas.

Given the limitations you mention concerning lack of CD's etc. --
You may be able to get the computer to run in safe mode. If so, please post
another message on this news group, and give us a few more details to work
with.
Can you describe what occurred between the time everything worked correctly
and your problems started?
Applications added or removed, virus infection, hardware problem or change,
etc.

It seems that for whatever reasons, your hard drive likely has files missing
or corrupted, most likely associated with the CD/DVD drives. There may be
backup copies on the HD, and safe mode may allow access to them.
Since you do not have a bootable CD, application CD's and or the use of safe
mode(unless you say differently), it may be difficult or impossible to
recover without additional resources.

The BJCOM error may be related to a CD/DVD application module used to burn
CD/DVD's. Thus it may be needed to get your CD/DVD drive to work properly.
As I understand your post, you have a CD drive and a DVD drive, both of
which are not working properly.

When you install an application bundles with a CD or DVD, it may disable an
already installed CD/DVD application, especially one that was bundled with
another brad of a CD or DVD drive. Roxio and Nero are infamous for this.
Correction may involve manual registry editing of entres related to the
CD/DVD and software..

When you refer to the administrator allowed capabilities, are you using the
built-in administrator account, or a user account with administrator
privileges (as I suspect)
If the built-in administrator account still functions, you may be able to
use it to setup another test account that has functional administrator
privileges. There is a possibility that the user account you normally use is
corrupted. It's usually simpler to setup a new user account than fix a
malfunctioning one.

The no disk in drive message may be the result of an error in locating a
file that is or was located on the HD, and possibly originally on a floppy
or CD during an install process.

Also, --occasionally, an application may be used with removable storage
media, and when restarted, expect to see that removable media in place.
(A certain financial application (if configured to do so) used removable
media to automatically backup during the exit/ application shutdown process.
If it was configured to autostart on windows startup, an error similar to
the one you mentioned can occur if the removable media is not present, or if
the drive containing the removable media is not available.

Thanks for the quick response. I believe that the issues with the CD and DVD
drives is related to my deleting some Nero files that came with the Computer.
(I was having some issues wit the computer and deleted that file/program as
I did not recognize it.)

A couple of questions to your response. As a relative computer novice, how
do I start up in safe mode? (I wil review this web site to see if I can find
the answer.) Secondly, how would I find the back up copies on my hard drive
if I can get started in a safe mode? Lastly, how do I access the built in
administrator? I agree with your suspicion that I am using the user account
with administrative responsibilities.

Sorry for the 'stupid' questions. Just trying to get it working!
