windows xp, start bar, and all icons are gone.

Hi can anyone help..? When we get on our user accounts the screens are
blank, there are no icons, no start bar nothing. I can use task manager, but
am unable to find control panel... I have tried everything i can think of.
The window button on the keyboard doesnt bring any thing up either...

As of yesterday I have the same problem too. Having seen similar issues
before I tried running task manager and noticed that explorer was not
running, so I started it. Still none of my icons or start bar showed up, but
you can get to what would be on your desktop and control panel from there. I
also found that my antivirus software had been disabled. After starting it
and doing a scan it found 4 viruses, which it cleaned, but even after
rebooting it still has the same problem, and my antivrus software was
disabled again. I can run it, but am unable to enable real-time file
protection anymore. I then ran chkdsk and it found several issues, but
again, I still have the same issue of no start bar, no icons, and several
things that should launch on startup never do.

I could use some more help here myself.
