'XP RTM' build must have a build number 2600. You probably are still
using a beta / rc build.

Yes, if sounds like you are running a beta. you need to buy a valid copy of
XP to install. you can't upgrade any beta to SP1.

Build 2505 is RC1.
All licenses to use RC 1 expired 2 years ago upon the release of
Windows XP.
Buy a legal license of Windows XP and Service Pack 1 will install.

Greetings --

Build 2505 was, if I remember correctly, WinXP Pro Release
Candidate 1, whose license expired on 25 Oct, 2001. Naturally, you
cannot apply the service pack to unlicensed pre-release evaluation
versions of the OS. You'll need to purchase and install a legitimate
retail license.
