Reinstalling Windows XP Home Edition

Guest

I am reinstalling windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 1a.
I insert the disc and click install windows XP but I cant go any further
because a note says you can not continue because a newer version of windows
is installed.

If I go to add or remove programs and remove Windows XP Service Pack 2 Would
the computer stop working right there and then?
Or is there any way I can override or continue the setup?
I need Expert Advise From an MVP NO GARBAGE!!

Hi,
Sure you can try removing SP2, but I would suggest you boot your computer
from CD and try re-installing it from there. Here is an article describing
your issue (method 2):

Depends whether you want to do a clean install (wipes out everything) or
repair install.
Repair Install: you cannot with a winxpsp that is earlier than the sp on
your sys
You would have to create a slipstreamed installation, containing the latest
sp
